ER: Engagement rate

Marketing Tipps von Stephan
What does ER mean? ER stands for Engagement Rate and measures how strongly users interact with content – for example through likes, comments, shares or clicks. Where is the ER used? The engagement rate is primarily used in social media marketing to evaluate the quality and relevance of posts or campaigns. What is a good ER? A good engagement rate depends on the platform. On Instagram, 1 % to 3 % is considered average, over 5 % is already very good. On LinkedIn, lower values are usually common.

ER simply explained
Formula: How do you calculate the engagement rate?
- ER = (interactions / reach) × 100
Example ER
To calculate the engagement rate, divide the number of all interactions (likes, comments, shares, clicks) by the reach achieved and multiply the result by 100 to obtain the percentage value.
How to calculate the ER
This is how you can calculate the Engagement Rate (ER):
- Range: 10,000
- Interactions: 500
- Formula: ER = (interactions / reach) × 100
- Calculation: (500 / 10,000) × 100 = 5 %
- Result: The engagement rate is 5%
